TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis says that the state is providing free assistance to Floridians who need to evacuate ahead of Hurricane Helene.

DeSantis said the state partnered with Uber to provide free transportation to shelters for anyone in counties under a State of Emergency. To get a free Uber ride, the governor said to use the code ‘Helenerelief’.

Additionally, Florida Emergency Management has arranged busses and other resources for Big Bend residents who need help evacuating. Those living in the Big Bend can call 1-800-729-3413 for travel assistance and information, according to Kevin Guthrie, the director of the Florida Division of Emergency Management.

Operators are available who can speak English, Spanish or Haitian Creole, according to Guthrie.
