Forget the Pixel 9 – Currys has the Google Pixel 7 for half price

Google unveiled its new Pixel 9 series of Android smartphones this week at a flashy event in California and they will no doubt be impressive. But that doesn’t mean you should immediately discount picking up an older model at a cheaper price – companies put out new phones every year but they often don’t add much over previous generations.

That’s why we think the Google Pixel 7 is still an excellent phone, and it is currently half price from Currys at just £349 down from £699 – a saving of £350. This is for the 256GB model, the most storage you can get on this particular smartphone, but we think this is a better storage option than 128GB (which Currys does not have in stock at the time of writing).

This is an excellent price for a top smartphone that came out in 2022. The Pixel 7 has a 6.3-inch OLED display with smooth 90Hz refresh rate, a 50MP main camera known for its excellent image quality, full water and dust resistance and runs Android 14, the latest version of Google’s Android software. The phone will get updated to Android 15 later this year and then Android 16 next year, plus will get full security updates until October 2027.

At the time of writing the Pixel 7 is only available in the Lemongrass colour, an attractive pale green hue that is subtle enough for anyone to pull off. The dual cameras are housed in a light gold camera bar across the back of the phone, which gives it that unmistakable Pixel look, while a decent sized battery should keep things powered up all day (though note there’s only a USB-C cable in the box, no charger – a common occurrence with smartphones these days).

Everything runs on Google’s Tensor G2 chipset, and with Android 14 you’re going to gain a lot of software updates including getting Google’s new Gemini, an AI assistant that can do a lot more by pulling information from all of your Google apps to answer questions related to your emails, documents and photos.

On top of the excellent cameras, you’ll also have features such as Magic Editor that let you edit and tweak photos to remove unwanted objects or people, adjust lighting and other fun tools.

We don’t imagine there are many of these phones in stock since Google no longer manufactures the Pixel 7, so be sure to jump on this great deal soon. Alternatively, you could opt for the Pixel 8a, which is a newer device that gets seven years of software updates until 2031 and costs £499 – you might prefer a device that came out this year, not in 2022.

You should also shop around before committing to this deal to make sure there aren’t better options out there for you. Plus you might not even need a new phone at all! But if you do, this is a deal to consider.
