Former Carlisle chairman Jenkins dies, aged 87

Former Carlisle United chairman and co-owner Andrew Jenkins has died at the age of 87.

Jenkins first joined the Cumbrians’ board in 1959 and he became chairman in the 1990s.

He held the role until November 2023 – when Carlisle were taken over by Castle Sports Group – and he was subsequently given the honorary title of chairman emeritus in recognition of his contributions to the club.

In the same year, the East Stand at Brunton Park was renamed the Andrew Jenkins stand.

“There simply aren’t enough words to explain the impact Andrew had on this football club over his 64-year association,” a Carlisle statement said., external

“Everybody at Carlisle United Football Club is devastated to learn of [his] passing. Our thoughts are with Andrew’s loved ones at this extremely sad time.”
