Former Pakistan PM Imran Khan, Shah Mahmood Qureshi get ten-year jail term in Cipher case

Former Pakistani PM Imran Khan and ex-Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi have been sentenced to 10 years in prison in the cipher case. The Special Court established under the Official Secrets Act found Khan guilty of not returning a diplomatic document, which his party, PTI, had held for a long time. Special Court Judge Abual Hasnat Zulqarnain announced the verdict, sentencing both Khan and Qureshi to a decade behind bars. The verdict comes a week before the February 8, 2024, elections, which the PTI is contesting without an electoral symbol amid a state crackdown on the party.
