Freeview users across UK issued with 24 hour TV warning – don't ignore latest advice

If your Freeview TV viewing is being disputed by a dodgy signal this weekend you are definitely not alone. Freeview has issued a 24-hour warning due to the weather conditions currently hovering over the UK with the platform saying “disruption” is expected. High pressure has hit parts of Britain today, Sunday, January 28, and telly signals simply don’t like it – that means your screen could be suffering from a glitchy, interrupted picture and broken sound.

“Freeview viewers across parts of England and Wales could see some disruption to their TV reception on Sunday 28th of January 2024,” Freeview explained in a post on its website.

“This is due to high pressure which could disrupt the TV signals which Freeview uses.”

If your screen is playing up then it’s vital you follow some simple advice and don’t start fiddling with the channels or attempting a retune as this is a big waste of your time.

“You are advised not to retune your TV during this time – reception will be restored once the high pressure passes.”

It really is as simple as that, once the weather changes again tomorrow things will revert to normal again.

For those who currently have a telly that’s completely unwatchable there is one way to get a clear picture again. If you have a compatible set-top box or internet-connected TV, then it’s worth trying Freeview Play.

This service uses the web instead of your aerial to beam content to your telly which means it’s unaffected by the local weather.

“If you have an internet-connected Freeview Play TV, or one that has the players available to view, you will still be able to watch live and on-demand content from the likes of BBC iPlayer, ITVX, All4 or My5,” Freeview explained.

What is Freeview Play?

For those not aware, Freeview Play launched back in 2015 and is host to more than 70 standard and a selection of HD live channels. There are also 30 radio stations and 12 on-demand players as well including BBC iPlayer, ITVX, Channel 4, My5, UKTV Play and the latest addition of S4C Clic. Those accessing the service will find around 60,000 hours of on-demand content to watch along with over 1,250 box sets.
