I started an easy business on Facebook and now I have my own shop at just 23 – here’s how I did it

A SAVVY young businesswoman has told how she managed to open her own shop at just 23.

Abby Fielding began selling clothes on Facebook after studying fashion Design and Business at University.

After a month of this, decided she’d start her own stall in Darwen Market, Lancashire.

And within just a few months, Abby’s stall was growing so successfully that she had managed to get herself a permanent slot in January 2022.

She says any profit she’d make, she’d reinvest in buying more clothes and building more of a customer base.

And the hard work paid off as yesterday Abby opened Sunset Amore – her very own clothing shop on Railway Road in Darwen.

She told LancsLive: “After University, I was unsure what to do, whether to go into design or marketing.

“With Fashion Design, you can only really do two things. I’ve always wanted my own business though and I’ve always wanted to design my own clothes.”

Abby’s shop hasn’t been open for very long, but the young entrepreneur is already looking to the future.

She said: “I’d love a bigger shop in a few years and design and make my own clothes. I used to use old curtains when I was younger and I’ve always been quite arty and liked textiles.”

Sunset Amore sells women’s clothes and baby clothes – something Abby said had been missing from her local high street.

She continued: “I just had the room in the shop to put some baby clothes and people in the market would always say there’s nowhere nearby that sells them.

“There are supermarkets and that’s about it.”

Abby says she gets a lot of footfall from the cafe next door to her shop and tries to attract all different kinds of customers.

She said: “Firstly, I was looking at what I like but now I sell anything for teenagers and older ladies too. I sell different sizes as well, I go from a size 6 to a size 22.”

It comes after we told of another entrepreneur who started his own business from his bedroom when he was just 16 years old – and sold it for a sizeable £22million.

Lee McNeil started up his tech company Tebex which began life as an online platform selling products for the Minecraft video game from his home in Bulwell, Nottinghamshire.
