‘I will make an extra £2,000 thanks to my Christmas tree decorating side hustle’

One woman is sharing how she is expecting to earn an additional £2,000 thanks to her unique Christmas-themed side hustle.

Janine Ralph, 30, from Withywood, Bristol decided to take her love of interior design and turn it into a second job over the festive season.

On Facebook, the mum-of-two offered her special services as a Christmas tree decorator last year.

To her surprise, she was inundated with households looking for assistance in decorating their tree.

Knowing how popular her services will be this year, Ms Ralph chose to raise her prices and began taking bookings in July.

Ms Ralph is completely booked for 2023 with 27 clients having sought out her side hustle for help.

Prices start from £40 for a 7ft tree and she started working through bookings as early as November 6 to get ahead of the work.

In 2022, the side hustler made around £300 in profit but she is hoping to triple her earnings this year.

Any money she earns from the second job will be used to cover the cost of this year’s Christmas presents for her family.

Outside of her side hustle, Mr Ralph also runs an independent gift business which is based in Bristol.

She explained: “I’ve always loved interior design and decorating my own house. All my friends said I should do it as a service – and I never looked back.

“I thought ‘I’ll give it a go again this year because I really enjoy it’.

“When I announced my books were open back in July, loads of people booked in straight away. It’s halfway through November and I’m fully booked up.”

The entrepreneur wants to reach £2,000 this year and says that will “completely cover” the cost of her family’s Christmas.

Ms Ralph added: “The extra cash will help out loads – it will cover the cost of Christmas this year.

“I love doing it as well – I get a little kick out of it when people compliment my work. I’m very fussy – if I don’t think it looks right, I’ll move things around.

“Every tree I do needs to look perfect. I’ve already got people asking when I open my books for next year.”
