'I'm a doctor – this is why you should stop wearing shoes inside the house'

For convenience, due to habit and for comfort are just some of the reasons why people to choose to leave their shoes on in the house.

But Dr Kunal Sood warned keeping footwear on inside could put your health at risk. The US based doctor took to his TikTok channel to make the recommendation.

The pain management specialist shared a shocking statistic: “A study was done by the University of Arizona which showed more than 96 percent of shoes had bacteria which is more than was found on floors and hands.”

Dr Sood said this includes harmful bacteria such as E.coli, which can cause both stomach and urinary tract infections.

Also bacteria that can transmit hormone disrupting chemicals, such as pesticides.

Some of this bacteria may also include faecal matter from restrooms.

The best way to prevent this, of course, is to not wear shoes inside, said Dr Sood.

But he also advised: “If someone does make sure you clean your floors.”
