Labour MP Dawn Butler threatens to call police on Mumsnet amid backlash over Brianna Ghey’s murder

LABOUR MP Dawn Butler threatened to report Mumsnet to police after she suffered a backlash over a trans teenager’s murder.

She had blamed the Government for creating anti-trans “hate” after two teens were convicted of Brianna Ghey’s killing.

Her post on X was slammed by users of parenting website Mumsnet, who said she was “weaponising” the tragedy.

The Brent Central MP, 54, then posted: “I wondered where these nasty, vicious, inhumane people were coming from.

“Time for me to unfollow and report Mumsnet to @metpoliceuk.”

That sparked further anger. One user said: “You do know criticising politicians for their public utterances is not actually illegal?”

Another said the idea of an MP reporting the site to police was “bonkers”.

Cops ruled Brianna’s murder in Warrington was not a hate crime.

Mumsnet founder and CEO Justine Roberts said: “It’s somewhat ironic that Ms Butler chose to post her attack on Mumsnet on X (formerly Twitter) which regularly hosts comments that wouldn’t last a moment on Mumsnet and where the moderation is light touch at best.

“We see this kind of double standard a lot.”

The MP and the Met were asked to comment.
