A LABOUR MP has been suspended for suggesting Israel’s action in Gaza was genocide.
On Friday, the eve of Holocaust Memorial Day, Kate Osamor said “more recent genocides” should be remembered, naming “Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and now Gaza”.
She later tweeted: “I apologise for any offence caused by my reference to the ongoing humanitarian disaster in Gaza.”
But the Board of Deputies of British Jews blasted the Edmonton MP’s comments.
It said the mass murder of six million Jews in no way compares to Israel’s efforts to “uproot Hamas from Gaza”.
The board added: “We believe Ms Osamor was perfectly aware of what she was saying and therefore view her apology as utterly hollow.”
A Labour source confirmed she has lost the whip pending an inquiry.
This comes as a Labour MP who accused Rishi Sunak of having “blood on his hands” over Gaza accepted a £9,000 trip from the government of Qatar — which gives homes to Hamas leaders.
Tahir Ali accused the PM of being partly to blame for the killing of thousands of Palestinians.
But the Birmingham Hall Green MP was invited to Qatar by its foreign affairs ministry in September — weeks before Hamas attacked Israel.
Hamas runs an office in Qatar and several of its leaders live there.
Mr Ali recorded that his trip cost £8,972 for flights, accommodation and food for himself and a family member.
