Lost forest’ featured at Oct. 1 HCLL program – Park Rapids Enterprise

Headwaters Center for Lifelong Learning‘s fall series continues with Phyllis Root: “The Lost Forest,” from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1 at the Event Room, Park Rapids.

According to Root, “an 1882 surveying error mapped part of Minnesota as a lake when it was actually a forest. Since lumber companies weren’t interested in a lake, the old-growth forest stayed ‘lost’ until 1960. Now it is a scientific and natural area, protected for everyone who wants to walk back in time under tall, tall trees.”

Her book “The Lost Forest” features illustrations by Betsy Bowen. In addition, Root will explain her love for Minnesota’s native wildflowers, which she searches for and writes about with photographer Kelly Povo. The program is open to the public, free of charge and handicap accessible.
