Major car brand to stop UK production for one year as brand pushes for EV rollout – GB News

Popular British car brand Jaguar revealed that there will be no new cars in the UK for a year as the manufacturer moves forward with its plan to go all-electric.

According to reports, Jaguar is aiming to have an all-electric fleet by next year despite the market being stagnant and consumer demand slumping.

Last year, the carmaker announced that it would produce its final petrol sports car, the F‑TYPE model this year with plans to be fully electric by 2025.

Now as the brand looks to prioritise its ambitious strategy, it has been revealed that no more cars will be produced this year.

Speaking last year, Rawdon Glover, managing director at Jaguar, said: “As Jaguar embarks on the boldest transformation in its history; to become a modern luxury all‑electric brand from 2025, this is an unrepeatable celebration of Jaguar’s internal combustion sports car provenance.

“F‑TYPE has captivated sports car drivers for more than a decade, just as the E‑type did five decades before it.”

Autocar has suggested that the model will cost around £100,000, with a staggering range of 435 miles and a dual-motor powertrain with more than 575bhp.

Glover told Autocar that today’s electric cars “all look quite similar because they’ve spent too long in a wind tunnel, for range purposes”.

He explained: “If we look at it, it’s quite a homogenous sector, and I suspect that might be part of the reason why the BEV sector stalled a little bit.

“Actually, what you want to do is make a car that actually challenges some of those conventions.

“When you see the naming strategy, what you will see is acknowledgements and nods to our past, but also aspects which are much more forward-thinking,” he detailed.

The race to electric comes as the UK looks to amend the 2035 deadline to ban the sale of new petrol and diesel cars and vans.

This could still change, however, as Labour looks to bring stability to the market by reinstating the original 2030 deadline, with a Government spokesperson telling GB News that an announcement will be made “in due course”.

Glover stated that when the car is unveiled, it will be targeted for the US market first because of how crucial it is for the brand.

He added: “It’s a really important part of the brand, but we’re also a global brand. And look at the size and the scale of the US market – for us it’s really important.”

The new electric GT is expected to hit UK stores in 2026 with no new cars entering the market for roughly a year.

“Retailers will intensify their focus on used cars and aftersales services, but yes, there will be a period where you will not be able to buy a Jaguar,” Glover warned.
