The location has promised motorists a “clean and contemporary design” which will include six charging ports for EV drivers.

A disabled parking spot as well as 16 new parking spaces will replace where Esso’s car wash once stood.

Bosses with Rontec say now is the perfect time to give the filling station a makeover.

A planning statement in support of the application said: “Holden Bridge Service Station was built quite a some time ago and it is now considered outdated when set against the specification of modern buildings.

“The development will replace the existing forecourt shop with the new building being designed to ensure that it meets the relevant building regulations whilst taking into account the surrounding streetscape.”

A design and access statement added: “The proposed development, which represents an upgrade, will provide a service that better serves their customers and staff by responding to their needs.

“The use of the site as a service station is already established through the presence of the existing operation.

“The proposed development seeks to replace and extend the existing forecourt shop.

“The new forecourt shop will improve the existing facilities provided within the service station.”

A council report said it was motivated to provide an enhanced experience for motorists.

“The application seeks to continue to use the site as a service station and replace and extend the existing forecourt shop to modernise and improve the existing facilities which are currently provided by the service station,” the local authority wrote.

“The shop would be increased in size, however a large proportion of the development would be a storage area.

“The shopfront would be primarily constructed using glazing with dark grey aluminium frames.

“The design is vastly different in comparison to the current building.

“However, it is considered that the development would modernise this local facility and would result in a high-quality development which would contribute positively to the surrounding context.”
