HALIFAX — A man drowned on Mother’s Day following a canoe accident in Halifax, officials said.
Halifax police received a 911 call about 10:58 a.m. for a report of a capsized canoe with several people in the water near the boat ramp at 47 White Island Road on Sunday.
“Upon arrival, Halifax Police and Fire located three individuals, including one adult and two children, who had exited the water safely,” said Beth Stone, a spokesperson for Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz. “A second adult was reported missing below the water’s surface.”
Halifax first responders contacted Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the Plymouth County DA’s office. Halifax firefighters also requested assistance from the Plymouth County Technical Rescue Dive Team and several local fire departments.

“At approximately 12:42 p.m., the dive team located the male victim,” Stone said. “He was transported to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital where he was pronounced dead.”
The man’s identity is not being released at this time.
