Manchester United told by coach what to expect after signing Arsenal wonderkid Chido Obi-Martin

Denmark Under-18 head coach Morten Eskesen believes Manchester United are signing a ‘really good finisher’ in Chido Obi-Martin.

The 16-year-old has emerged as one of the best young strikers at youth level in Europe after scoring 32 goals in 18 games for Arsenal’s Under-18s last season, including 10 in a one match against Liverpool.

Arsenal, however, were unable to convince Obi-Martin to stay with the club and the striker has now reached an agreement to join Manchester United.

Obi-Martin, who is expected to sign professional terms with United when he turns 17 in November, had also attracted strong interest from Bayern Munich, while Ruud van Nistelrooy is said to have played a key role in persuading the young forward to make the move to Old Trafford.

‘His greatest competence is that he scores many goals,’ Eskesen told Tipsbladet.

‘If you saw some of the goals at the European Championships… he’s a really good finisher and positional so he gets free for that.

‘He is also good man-to-man. He is good at running in depth in relation to getting into free positions. His finishing skills are what allow him to score so many goals.

‘One is to get the chances – number two is to score. There he is above average and that is what makes him so interesting.’

After scoring two goals in Denmark’s UEFA European Under-17 Championship campaign in May, Obi-Martin is now stepping up to Under-18 level with his national side to play against Norway in a mini tournament in Sweden.

And Eskesen insists Obi-Martin is raring to go ahead of the competition.

‘I spoke to him last week and asked him if he was fit for the fight and injury-free. He was, and he is in between clubs,’ Eskesen said.

‘Right now he doesn’t have a club, but it’s only a matter of time. A lot happens in the transfer window. We know what he stands for. He has scored a lot of goals and had a good European Championship recently.

‘When I read about him, they have been queuing up to get him. I’m sure a man with that talent will have no trouble finding a club. It might be more about which club he chooses.’
