Mazda unveils dramatic new look for iconic motor with huge new infotainment system, plush seats & punchy throttle

MOTORHEADS are being treated to a brand new Mazda this year – noted as one of the most substantial updates in almost a decade.

The well-known two-seater Japanese motor will have a whole new look, but will set punters back a hefty sum.

Mazda’s MX-5 is used to having a quick annual makeover to keep it current – but often doesn’t change too much.

But, this latest model is one of the more substantial revisions in recent years, with the interior receiving all sorts of upgrades.

Punters can expect a new, larger 8.8-inch infotainment screen works with touch for the first time, though can still be controlled with a rotary dial.

The screen is said to offer ‘clearer navigation mapping’ as well as enhanced connected services.

The instrument panel has also been updated, while top-spec Homura versions feature new leather and Alcantara Recaro seats.

The styling updates are the first for this current generation of Mazda MX-5, though are fairly subtle.

New LED headlights now incorporate the daytime running light, as well as shiny new LED rear lights.

Motorists hoping to cop the new wheels will also have a choice of a new colour – Aero Grey – when they decide to buy one.

Mazda has not changed the engines available on the MX-5, with a choice of a 130bhp 1.5-litre petrol engine or a 181bhp 2.0-litre petrol unit, with the latter now featuring a new Asymmetric Limited Slip Differential.

The fancy new system can control the level of slip through corners and helps to make sure the MX-5 offers the light and nimble driving experience it’s known for.

High-spec models also feature a new specific dynamic stability control for track driving, which delays its intervention to not compromise on the car’s fun factor.

Other small tweaks include changes to the throttle response and electric power steering.

The new Mazda MX-5 will arrive in the UK in March, with prices starting from £28,000 and it will continue to be available as both a soft-top roadster and as a folding metal-top RF.

It’s not the only new motor petrolheads can look forward to – as firms continue to update fans with new models that will soon be released.

MORE CARS ON THE WAY

Recently, the first images of the new Range Rover Electric were revealed as the iconic motor is set to be relaunched next year.

And, Ford dropped an update on it’s award winning Puma ST – now coming in an all new hybrid-only state.

And finally, BMW promised to bring in a “new era” with an all-electric SUV.

The Neue Klasse SUV will reportedly mark an enormous turning point in the German brand’s history – but the brand’s fans will have to wait until 2025 to get their hands on it.
