The vehicle financing company Hippo Leasing has shared the upcoming electric models that many Brits are anticipating being able to buy in the near future.
With more than a million electric cars on UK roads, buyers are spoilt for choice, with almost all major vehicle brands offering a zero-emission model.
According to Hippo Leasing, who studied the number of Google searches from UK drivers between December 2023 and May 2024, the most anticipated electric vehicle is the Tesla Cybertruck.
The latest model by perhaps the most controversial figure in the world of motoring, Elon Musk, the Cybertruck is an unusual electric pickup truck that features an unpainted stainless steel body and a total range of up to 340 miles.
However, whilst American motorists can already buy a Cybertruck, with prices starting at $81,895 (£64,550), the model’s 3,009kg weight means it is too heavy for most Brits to drive with a standard licence. As a result, it is highly unlikely that Tesla will officially sell the Cybertruck in the UK.
One model that Hippo Leasing noted will likely be sold in the UK soon is the Mercedes-Benz EQG, with nearly 166,000 UK motorists searching for the model between December 2023 and May 2024.
First previewed in September 2021, the EQG is effectively a fully electric version of the Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen, a luxury SUV that first saw the light of day in 1979.
Whilst the model looks very similar to a petrol-powered G-Wagen, the EQG will feature no fewer than four motors, each featuring a high and low range for better off-roading capabilities, and a possible range of up to 300 miles per charge.
However, whilst most motorists are interested in the high-end electric models that could soon reach the UK roads, Hippo Leasing also noted that many are interested in the Dacia Spring.
Already available to order, this four-seater hatchback’s main selling point is its starting price of £14,995, making it the cheapest full-size electric car on the UK market.
Whilst it is not quite as capable as popular models made by Volkswagen and Tesla, the Spring will be able to cover a maximum range of 140 miles, making it incredibly useful for city driving.
Most anticipated electric cars (number of UK searches in six months):
- Tesla Cybertruck – 440,100
- Mercedes EQG – 165,900
- Tesla Roadster – 118,400
- Dacia Spring – 68,100
- Audi Q6 e-tron – 43,900
