Youth Emergency Shelter and Supports (YESS) of Park Rapids and the Family Safety Network (FSN) of Walker are among 12 organizations awarded a combined $350,000 in grant funding through the Otto Bremer Trust Community Response Fund.
According to a news release, the Northwest Minnesota Foundation (NMF) awarded the grants to support services and programs addressing crucial needs in local communities.
The NMF received 28 applications totaling more than $1 in requests, the release states.
YESS was awarded $25,000, and the FSN was awarded $20,000. Other rewards were as follows:
- $75,000 to the Red Lake Homeless Shelter.
- $50,000 each to Marshall County Group Homes, Inc., of Argyle and Northwoods Battered Women’s Shelter of Bemidji.
- $25,000 to BIO Girls, Inc., serving locations throughout northwest Minnesota.

The Otto Bremer Trust identified four categories for funding: basic needs, community asset building, health and wellbeing, and restorative and responsive.
Cory Boushee, NMF’s director of programs, said the trust’s funding “enabled us to contribute no-strings-attached operational dollars to our local partners who are delivering vital impacts across our region.”
Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of “staff.” Often, the “staff” byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
