The first Noon Hour Concert of the summer will feature cellist Sage Gonzalez from 12:15 to 12:45 p.m. Thursday, June 6 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Park Rapids.
Gonzalez will perform Bach’s Suite No. 2 for Unaccompanied Cello in D minor and, with pianist Sarah Carlson, the first movement of Brahms’ Cello Sonata No. 1.
A senior at Bemidji High School (BHS), Gonzalez has been playing cello for five years and plans to study cello performance in college. According to a press release, his dream is to spend the rest of his life making music.
Gonzalez, 16, plays with the BHS Symphony and Chamber Orchestra and a Bemidji State University chamber group. He is a two-time All State cellist and plans to attend a music camp this summer. He works with fifth graders at Gene Dillon Elementary and has performed multiple recitals as well as solo performances with the BHS Chamber Orchestra.
Carlson holds a Master of Music in organ performance from the University of Iowa and a Bachelor of Music from St. Olaf College. She serves as director of music ministry at First Lutheran Church in Bemidji.
Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of “staff.” Often, the “staff” byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
