One in a million odds: Dighton resident wins $1 million from MA lottery ticket – Enterprise News

DIGHTON — Michael Stephens, a former deep-sea fisherman from Dighton, became the second $1 million Lottery prize winner in the Massachusetts Lottery’s new JAWS instant ticket game.

The odds of winning were one in 1,344,000, according to the Massachusetts State Lottery’s website.

Stephens, who bought the lucky scratch off ticket at the Olde Village Corner Store in Somerset, claimed the one-time cash payment of $650,000 at the Massachusetts State Lottery headquarters in Dorchester on April 22.

He plans to share the winnings with his family and travel with his wife.

The Somerset corner store, which is located at 2756 County St., will also benefit from Stephens’ winnings, receiving $10,000 for the sale of the winning ticket.

The JAWS instant ticket game, which began March 26 and is only available in Massachusetts, includes three more instant grand prizes of $1 million.

The game also includes a Second Chance Drawing, giving 30 non-winnings players the chance to receive a Jaws movie-inspired trip for two to Martha’s Vineyard for the summer of 2025.

While on Martha’s Vineyard, the trip winners will participate in a Jaws movie-themed game show for the chance to win $1 million. So far, six players have won the Second Chance Drawing, leaving 24 more spots on the trip.
