SHILLONG, May 3: The Rs 150-crore Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) under which over 300 high-end CCTV cameras with facial recognition features will be installed in various locations of the city, is likely to be up and running by July.
Revealing this on Friday, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said, “Under the Shillong Smart City project, Rs 150 crore for the integrated command and control centre has already been sanctioned. Work is already on and you must be seeing high-tech cameras beings set up at different junctions.”
He explained that the barricade at the IGP junction has come up since the installation work is going on.
“Over 300 cameras will be installed and these will be enhanced with facial recognition software. The integrated command centre is being set up near the IT Park in New Shillong Township and we expect it to be inaugurated in July,” he said.
Speaking on the security aspect, the chief minister said the cameras may not detect everything but one thing is for sure that it would act as a deterrent.
“Once these cameras are running, we are sure that this will help in reducing crime in the future and it will help police to gather evidence in different cases,” he stated.
