ENTERPRISE, Ala. (WTVY) – Authorities uncovered over a dozen illegal gambling machines in Enterprise.
The investigation began last year when three businesses were discovered to have been operating illegal gambling. The businesses were served letters to stop the activity.
In what officials dubbed Project Las Vegas, the storefronts were discovered to still have these gaming machines, some even changing their business practices to hide them.
Officers with Enterprise Police Department and Coffee County Sheriff’s Office carried out three simultaneous search warrants Wednesday night, seizing sixteen gambling machines, $16,000 and computer equipment used to operate the machines.
Coffee County District Attorney James Tarbox said no charges were filed last night, but they reserve the right to prosecute those involved.
Operating illegal gambling is a Class A misdemeanor under current Alabama law.
