Police: Brockton High students receive threatening text messages – Enterprise News

BROCKTON — Multiple Brockton High School students received threatening text messages Sunday night, according to the Brockton Police Department.

There is no active danger, and the author has been identified, police said.

“Earlier today, we were made aware of a series of threatening text messages targeting individuals,” said BPD Director of Communications Darren Duarte in an email Monday morning. “Social media posts began circulating after that. Brockton Police have identified the author, and charges are pending.”

Duarte also said the incident “remains an open and active investigation.”

A screenshot of the messages spread across social media.

Brockton Public School officials did not immediately respond to requests for comments by the time of publication.

The messages claimed that someone will enter Brockton High School on Monday morning and that individuals should exit the school safely.

What we don’t know yet

Although Duarte confirmed that there is no active danger at the school, it’s unclear whether the individual who sent the messages is a Brockton student, or how many students the author texted.

Duarte said that officials have identified the author and “charges are pending” but he did not confirm if the individual has been arrested.

A BPS parent said on social media that the school district informed them that there will be an increase in police presence at Brockton High School and in the school’s hallways on Monday. BPS did not comment when asked by The Enterprise via email if there would be a larger police presence at the school.
