PSG could sell Man Utd target Goncalo Ramos in January just six months on from joining from Benfica

Paris Saint-Germain could offload striker Goncalo Ramos during the January transfer window, just six months on from his arrival in the French capital.

PSG signed the Portugal international from Benfica last summer on an initial loan deal with the move made permanent in the summer in a deal worth £69million.

Ramos enjoyed a breakout campaign with his country at the World Cup in Qatar last year and finished last season with 27 goals in all competitions with Benfica. Manchester United were among the clubs interested in signing the 22-year-old in the summer, eventually opting for Rasmus Hojlund, who joined from Atalanta in a £72million deal.

Ramos has struggled at PSG this season however, scoring just four times in 19 appearances having not started a Ligue 1 game since November.

Reports in Portugal have also suggested he has struggled with a virus which at one point left him hospitalised.

Ramos’ future at PSG now looks to be in real doubt with head coach Luis Enrique not convinced he is a long-term solution to lead his attack, L’Equipe report. His move to PSG was largely orchestrated by sporting director Luis Campos but Enrique has been reluctant to use him in his side.

PSG’s hierarchy are now considering Ramos’ future at the club and could be tempted to cash in on the player this month should the right offer come in.

United meanwhile have continued to struggle for goals this season with Hojlund, who has scored seven times since his arrival in Manchester their only reliable option up top with Anthony Martial’s struggles continuing.

Last year, United captain Bruno Fernandes backed his compatriot Ramos to thrive in English football and become ‘one of the best strikers in the world’.

‘I think he has all the qualities to play in the Premier League, and when I say Premier League I also mean Manchester United.

‘Gonçalo has all the conditions to play in the Premier League, he is very intense, presses very well and is very good inside the area.

‘He surprised me in the national team, not only me but the rest of my teammates. He’s physically strong, he’s still young and he’s going to get better.

‘If he continues to work as he has been doing, I think he has the potential to be one of the best strikers in the world, but he needs to go to a more competitive league to prove it.’

Arsenal and Chelsea are also in the market for a new striker this month.
