Pubs, bars likely to raise cover charges

New Delhi: More premium spirits and performances will be on offer tonight, so expect to cough up more cover charges for tables and reservations at restaurants, pubs, and bars. At Khubani in Delhi’s Aero City, a table for a couple will cost ₹40,000 which to be redeemable on food and drinks and the party’s expected to go on till the wee hours of morning.

“Our per head cover charges tomorrow (Sunday) can range from ₹8,000 to ₹20,000 depending on the outlets as we would like to avoid overcrowding and would like a select gathering. We will offer only premium alcohol such as single malts. Advance bookings seem to be better than last year,” said Priyank Sukhija, chief executive of First Fiddle Restaurants that operates popular outlets of brands such as Lord of the Drinks, Miso Sexy, Diablo, Tamasha and The Flying Saucer Cafe.

Riyaaz Amlani, MD, Impresario Entertainment & Hospitality, said company is seeing a steady increase in bookings. “We have SOCIAL house party at 50 outlets, and we have planned engagements for guests, comprising a special winter menu and premium cocktails, and high energy programming. Guests today are demanding a more premium experience,” he said.

Some pubs and bars said they’d like to avoid overcrowding and were doing away with unlimited food and alcohol packages. Rahul Singh, founder of The Beer Cafe, said he was fully booked for his Bira Taproom outlet packages. Krishnapriya Balakrishnan, the head of marketing at URU Brewpark in Bengaluru, said the couple cover charges were a bit higher than last year, but besides couples and singles, the restaurant was also introducing passes for elderly citizens and for young adults and teens.

“This year…we are also running offers on full bottles of premium liquor for brands. Besides, the regular fireworks, the DJ, and LED dancers, we will also have a musician who will move from table to table to serenade our guests,” she added.
