Chandigarh: The Punjab govt felicitated 10 women-led startups in the state on the 78th Independence Day for their valuable contributions to enhancing and influencing Punjab’s innovation ecosystem. These female founders, who are making remarkable progress, were recognised during the district-level I-Day celebrations.
These startups are being supported through the Startup’s Handholding and Empowerment (SHE) Initiative of the Punjab State Innovation Council, led by the Punjab State Council for Science and Technology (PSCST).
The initiative is a part of Mission Innovate Punjab led by the department of science, and technology to technologically empower female startups to create ventures, generating employment and boosting the economic growth of the state.
The young startups, Dr Vipasha Sharma, MKelly Biotech Pvt Ltd., Dr Aman and Dr Daman Walia of Millet Sisters, and Dr Rosy Singla of Rosy Foods are playing vital roles in enhancing the nutritional profile of millets, developing customized ready-to-eat products and beverages for pregnant women, lactating mothers, undernourished children and diabetics. One of the startups, Dr Ritu Mahajan, RiBioP AgroTech Private Limited has created an innovative biodegradable and non-toxic composition for preparing nano-bio-pesticides.
Among healthcare-based startups, Dr Gowri Jayamurgan, Gowriz Skin Care Private Limited, is working to produce biomass-based natural sunscreen formulation with anti-ageing and anti-cancer properties; Shakuntala, JV-Scan Pvt Ltd for AI-based voice analysis tool for detecting illness at an early stage through mobiles, Dr Pallavi Bansal, TeamMed Care is providing AI-based real-time health tracking for pregnant women, enabling healthcare professionals to monitor maternal health effectively. Other two startups, KreatKnit by Pooja Kaushik and Sakhiyan by Nancy Bhola are creating sustainable products from textile waste engaging underprivileged women, weavers, and artisans from rural areas under social entrepreneurship model. Another startup by Hardeep Kaur, Indona Innovative Solutions has designed a water flow restrictor for reducing wastage.

During Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University’s convocation, six startups by students were celebrated for their innovation. Notably, Yash Goel’s ambulance booking app secured the Best Health Innovation Award. Another highlight was Harsh Chauhan’s Signify device, translating sign language in real-time. Awards were also given for initiatives in accessibility, social impact, sustainability, tech innovation, and women-led startups.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu directed officials to develop Andhra Pradesh into a startup hub, focusing on IT and electronics sectors. He urged collaboration with educational institutions and identifying suitable locations for tech parks. He also highlighted the need for cybersecurity measures and AI public-service initiatives. Additionally, Naidu announced plans for solar panels on government buildings by 2025.
Hyderabad-based Fresh Bus announced it raised Rs 87.5 crore in Series-A funding led by Maniv, with participation from Shell Ventures, Alteria Capital, and Riverwalk Holdings. The funds will be used to expand its fleet, adding 150 new electric buses and 15 routes. Fresh Bus aims to establish a nationwide network for intercity travel in India.
