Hyundai redid the Kona subcompact SUV from the ground up for the 2024 model year, designing it as an electric vehicle first. It’s nearly 6 inches longer overall, with a wheelbase stretch of 2.3 inches translating to a 3.0-inch gain in rear legroom. It’s also an inch wider and 1.2 inches taller. And now, Hyundai has announced pricing for the all-electric version of the 2024 Kona; the subcompact SUV will start at $34,010 (all prices include $1,335 destination charge).

Powertrain Specs and Range
All 2024 Hyundai Kona Electrics are front-wheel drive. The base SE trim gets a 48.6-kilowatt-hour battery pack and a 133-horsepower motor, while the SEL and Limited draw juice from a 64.8-kWh pack to feed a 201-hp motor. Hyundai claims the smaller battery should be good for 197 miles of range, while the EPA estimate for the larger pack is 261 miles. Regenerative braking controlled by paddles on the steering column is standard, as is a one-pedal driving mode. Hyundai says its Smart Regenerative System automatically adjusts regenerative braking in response to traffic flow.
With a 10.8-kilowatt onboard charger, the smaller battery pack is said to charge from 10%-100% on a Level 2 home unit in just over five hours, while the SEL and Limited will need six hours. On a DC fast charger, either pack can charge from 10%-80% in about 43 minutes, according to Hyundai.
Standard and Available Safety Features
The base Kona Electric SE comes equipped with a raft of advanced driver-assist systems, including forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitors, lane departure steering assist, adaptive cruise control and rear cross-traffic alert. Front and rear parking sensors with automatic emergency braking, a 360-degree camera system and automated parking are available, as are blind spot cameras that feed a display in the digital gauge cluster.
That digital gauge cluster is standard, and the 12.3-inch display is seamlessly integrated into an adjoining 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The latter features wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and is capable of over-the-air software updates.
