Samsung gives Galaxy S23 owners big reason not to switch to the Galaxy S24

The shiny new Galaxy S24 might be the star of the show right now but it seems Samsung hasn’t forgotten about some of its older devices including the Galaxy S23. In fact, some of the biggest new features found on the latest S24 and S24 Ultra are coming to a swathe of previously released phones – that basically means you might not have to splash on a new smartphone.

The update, which has been pencilled for late March, features a bunch of AI changes that have, until now, been exclusively available on the Galaxy S24 range.

Once downloaded, older Samsung phones will get the option to translate calls in real-time. That means if you phone a hotel in France and don’t speak French you’ll be able to understand exactly what’s being said – and visa versa.

Next up there’s the addition of Google’s clever Circle to Search feature. For those who have never heard of this before, it basically lets you circle something on a photo such as a place, object or product with an instant online search then be performed on the display.

Those who love making endless notes will also be pleased to see something called Note Assist arriving on more phones. This useful upgrade is able to format things so they are easier to read, plus generate summaries and translate notes for you.

There’s also Transcript Assist which easily transcribes meeting recordings and then generates summaries and full translations.

Anyone taking endless videos and photos on their phones will also soon be treated to upgrades including adding instant Slow-mo effects to any home movies that have already been shot.

Clever AI can also be used to edit photos including removing and moving objects without needing any Photoshop skills.

Speaking about the changes, James Kitto Vice President and Head of MX Division, Samsung UK and Ireland, said: “In January of this year we announced a new era of mobile AI with the Samsung Galaxy S24 series incorporating Galaxy AI. The performance to date has been extremely positive.

“Our global mission is to make AI more accessible, and that’s why we’re proud to be announcing that Galaxy AI features will be made available across a range of Samsung mobile devices throughout 2024, and for us here in the UK that’s over 1.8 million customers who will receive a Galaxy AI update on their current Galaxy device.”

Samsung says the changes will start rolling out towards the end of March on devices such as Galaxy S23 series, S23 FE, Z Fold5, Z Flip5 and Tab S9 series.

Express.co.uk will bring you more news on an official release date as soon as we hear more.
