Apple has just released its brand new MacBook Pro range, updated this month with the firm’s powerful M4 chipsets. These very capable machines are among the best computers you can buy with top-tier specs that can handle even the most demanding workloads for professionals who want to get the most out of their Macs.
The M4 MacBook Pro costs from £1,599, not exactly pocket change for most of us traversing the ongoing cost of living crisis. If you think you’d like to upgrade your MacBook but need a more affordable way to get your hands on it, buying the device on a contract plan could be the way to go.
Sky is offering the new MacBook Pro with 512GB storage from £35 per month to split the cost of the laptop over several months. As the MacBook is a pricey product, this comes to £1,680 over the 48 month (four year) contract, which totals £1,680 – so you will pay £81 more than the RRP of the laptop overall.
As you’re buying from Sky, you also are obliged to pick a data plan. This means you’ll be able to use your shiny new MacBook Pro to get online on 5G even when you’re away from a Wi-Fi connection. Sky is offering 50 percent off data plans for the first six months of a new MacBook contract, with the cheapest being £5 for 5GB data. That’ll cost £30 for the first six months, and then £420 for the remaining 42 months at £10 per month.
That means over four years you will pay £2,100, plus a £7 upfront cost at purchase, totalling £2,107. That is a lot, but spread over 48 months it’s £43.90 per month, which is similar to what many of us pay to get the latest smartphones on a contract plan.
In our review, we said the MacBook Pro is “still mighty and it’s now even better than before”, praising its powerful chip, lovely Space Black colour option, long battery life and the upcoming Apple Intelligence features.
An advantage to this particular offer is that Sky promises the cost of the data plan will not rise over the course of the contract, unlike other data plans for other devices that rise annually in April.
Not only that, but if you commit to the 48 month plan, you will be able to swap your MacBook Pro for a newer model from Sky after 36 months so you can be guaranteed of a zippier model three years down the line.
The cost of this plan is still relatively high though, so make sure you know you can afford the monthly payments before committing. If you don’t need a data plan, you might want to see if you can afford to buy the MacBook Pro upfront for the full RRP of £1,599 instead. But if you need to split the cost, this Sky deal could be the answer.
