Saturday Night Live returns to screens on 3 February with The Bear actor Ayo Edebiri making her hosting debut.
The actor will be joined alongside Jennifer Lopez on Saturday as the show‘s musical guest.
SNL was hosted last week by Fifty Shades of Grey star Dakota Johnson, appearing a series of sketches on Stanley cups and home videos.
SNL veteran Justin Timberlake was the musical guest and reunited with Jimmy Fallon to revive the Barry Gibb Talk Show sketch – over 10 years since it was last performed on the show.
It has not yet been revealed who else will be hosting SNL in upcoming episodes.
Here is everything you need to know about the next episode of SNL:
Who’s hosting this week?
Award-winning actor Ayo Edebiri is set to host the show for the first time.
In a promo video for the show, cast members Mikey Day, Molly Kearney and Ego Nwodim are all exhausted from their successive shows.
“Maybe we call Lorne [Michaels] and tell him we all got hit by a car?” Nwodim asks the others.
Edebiri then turns up in the studio, clapping at the group saying, “What’s this I’m hearing?”
“This show could be the greatest show of our lives and you’re just gonna let that opportunity slip away?,” she says as she launches into a motiviational speech with uplifting music starting to play.
“100 million people will be watching,” she said with earnest facial expressions, channelling her inner NFL football coach, yet Day responds “Probably not.”
“Oh really? Because I just heard, we’re following the Super Bowl,” she falsely claimed, as it will air the following Sunday, also claiming “This is going to be the first show that will be live on Saturday night.”
“That’s a lie!” Kearney replied.
She confesses she may have been bending the truth slightly, saying she just wanted to get them hyped for her first time hosting.
Yet it is only when she tells the cast that Jennifer Lopez will the musical guest, the trio started to go wild and chant ‘J.Lo’
While the cast may not be as impressed that Edebiri is appearing on SNL, the actor has recently swept up the awards season, winning a Golden Globe, an Emmy and a Critics Choice award for her role as Sydney in the comedy-drama series The Bear.
Edebiri has recently been seen in films such as Bottoms and Theater Camp and the comedy series Abbott Elementary.
Who’s performing this week?
Much to the cast’s excitement, Jennifer Lopez will perform as the musical guest on this week’s episode.
She made her first appearance on the show in 2000 as the musical guest back in season 25, but has since gone on to appear multiple times both as a host and to perform her music.
The singer and actor is gearing up to release her ninth album, This Is Me… Now, which is set to be released on 16 February.
Her album, the first she has released in a decade, will be accompanied by a film named This is Me… Now: A Love Story, which features herself and her husband, Ben Affleck, among other noteworthy actors.
Her first single from the album Can’t Get Enough was released last month ahead of the album drop.
