Key events
A fine save from David Raya to deny Hjulmand, whose low shot through a crowd of legs looked to be creeping in at the far post. Also being kept busy is Yann Sommer, twice denying RB Leipzig and preserving Inter’s place at the top of the Champions League MegaTable.
GOAL! Barcelona 2-0 Brest (Olmo 66′)
Job probably done for Barcelona, as Dani Olmo cuts in from the left and fires a shot through the keeper at the near post.
GOAL! Leverkusen 4-0 Salzburg (Schick 65′)
Patrik Schick gets in on the act with a clinical finish, adding to Pep Lijnders’ woes. Salzburg are sixth in the Austrian league at the minute, which I would imagine is not nearly acceptable.
GOAL! Sporting 1-4 Arsenal (Saka pen 64′)
This is precisely what Arsenal needed, the pressure evaporating as Bukayo Saka finds the corner with his spot kick. It was awarded for a frankly terrible challenge on Odegaard by Diomande – thankfully, the Gunners captain seems to be fine.
PSG embarrass themselves in Europe, part 1,057: with the ball at his feet in the Bayern area, Ousmane Dembélé contrives to lose possession and then kicks out at the nearest defender. Second yellow, and he’s off.
Sporting with plenty of possession, but Arsenal are staying organised and sitting deep, with Raya only called on to repel an ambitious shot from a tight angle.
In the Championship, a tough night for Mr Coleen Rooney as Norwich lead Plymouth 4-1, Borja Sainz completing his hat-trick. Elsewhere, Watford lead Bristol City 1-0.
GOAL! Young Boys 1-5 Atalanta (De Ketelaere 58′)
It’s men against Young Boys here, as Charles De Ketelaere continues a fine evening’s work with his second goal, curled in from the edge of the area.
“Brest’s Ludovic Ajorque is a fun player to watch,” notes Kari Tulinius. “An absolute unit, taller than Haaland, but something about how he’s built makes it seem that he’s a normal sized player standing closer to the camera than the player marking him.”
Also, who doesn’t love a bald No 9? Big Jan Koller vibes, although nobody ever mistook him for a normal-sized man.
GOAL! Man City 3-0 Feyenoord (Haaland 52′)
City starting to enjoy themselves, as Erling Haaland slides in to convert Matheus Nunes’ cross. Is he back? Are they back?
Bad news for Celtic’s title party planners, currently mulling a Black Friday champagne deal: Aberdeen have levelled at Easter Road, Jamie McGrath with the goal.
GOAL! Man City 2-0 Feyenoord (Gundogan 50′)
Breathing space for City, as Ilkay Gundogan’s volley from a half-cleared corner is deflected into the net off Hancko’s heel.
GOAL! Sporting 1-3 Arsenal (Inacio 46′)
Oof! Sporting make a dent in the Arsenal lead, and it’s a soft goal from the visitors’ perspective, with Goncalo Inacio free to head home a corner at the near post. Game on?
Peep!
We’re back and already, there are goals …
Good news for Celtic’s title party planners: Aberdeen are a goal down at Hibernian. Joe Newell scored the opener just before half time; the second half has just kicked off.
What’s afoot in the Championship? Well, goals have been in short supply – Stoke v Preston, Watford v Bristol City and Sunderland v West Brom are all goalless – but Burnley have just taken the lead over Coventry, Jeremy Sarmiento on target.
Elsewhere, Norwich lead Plymouth 2-1, Sheffield United are 2-0 up on Oxford and Sheffield Wednesday lead at Hull thanks to a Josh Windass penalty.
Half-time scores
Barcelona 1-0 Brest
Bayern Munich 1-0 PSG
Inter 1-0 Leipzig
Leverkusen 3-0 Salzburg
Man City 1-0 Feyenoord
Sporting 0-3 Arsenal
Young Boys 1-4 Atalanta
Early kick-off results
Slovan Bratislava 2-3 Milan
Sparta Prague 0-6 Atlético
Half time: Bayern Munich 1-0 PSG
Bayern finish the half on top, Joshua Kimmich going close. They take a deserved lead into the break after a lively first half, thanks to Kim Min-jae’s header from a corner.
Half time: Sporting 0-3 Arsenal
An exceptional first-half display from Arsenal, who are making very light work of a tough-looking game. Martinelli, Havertz and Gabriel all on target, and the job is almost done.
GOAL! Sporting 0-3 Arsenal (Gabriel 45′)
If I tell you this goal was scored by Gabriel Magalhães, can you picture it? It’s that, basically. Declan Rice swings in a perfect corner, which is headed home by the onrushing centre-back. He celebrates with what looks like a play on Gyokeres’ celebration, covering his eyes with his hands.
GOAL! Man City 1-0 Feyenoord (Haaland 44′ pen)
City take the lead at the end of a frustrating first half, with Erling Haaland smashing home the spot-kick after a long old VAR check. More on that here:
GOAL! Young Boys 1-4 Atalanta (Retegui 39′)
A second goal for Retegui, smashed into the bottom corner with interest. Starting to regret committing to covering every goal in this game, if I’m honest.
GOAL! Bayern 1-0 PSG (Kim 40′)
And it’s 1-0 to Bayern, although not the scorer anyone expected. After backup keeper Safonov flaps at a corner, the ball rebounds to Kim Min-jae, who heads empathically home!
The away fans are making most of the noise in Barcelona – Brest have brought 5,000-odd supporters with them, while a large section of Barça ultras are not present tonight after a dispute over a fine for offensive chants last season. Still 1-0 there …
PSG are growing into the game, with Barcola and Dembele causing some problems. When do you think Harry Kane’s going to score the opener? I’ll say 56 minutes.
Arsenal almost get in again down the right side, but the cross is poked away from danger with Saka lurking. At the Etihad, Feyenoord are starting to make some forays forward after keeping City’s attackers at arm’s length.
GOAL! Young Boys 1-3 Atalanta (Kolasinac 32′)
Who’s that galloping in on goal like a thoroughbred racehorse? Why, it’s Sead Kolasinac, played clean through by De Ketelaere. He takes a touch and picks his spot, slotting the ball into the bottom corner.
GOAL! Leverkusen 3-0 Salzburg (Wirtz 30′)
Wirtz gets his fifth goal in the Champions League this season, and it’s a beauty, as he picks up the ball wide of goal, cuts past two defenders and rolls it into the far corner.
GOAL! Young Boys 1-2 Atalanta (De Ketelaere 29′)
Atalanta retake the lead as Young Boys keeper David von Ballmoos makes a right Ballmoos of Charles De Ketelaere’s snap shot, letting the ball squirm in under his body.
GOAL! Inter 1-0 RB Leipzig (Lukeba og 27′)
Inter take the lead, Federico Dimarco’s wicked, curling delivery deflecting in off Castello Lukeba for an own goal.
GOAL! Sporting 0-2 Arsenal (Havertz 21′)
Well then. It’s all going to plan for Arsenal, who unpick Sporting’s defence again here. Partey’s lofted ball finds Saka, who nicks it past keeper Franco Israel, allowing Kai Havertz to tap into an empty net. Not the best from the Sporting stopper, who was also a bit tentative for the opening goal.
Arsenal have had to absorb a bit of pressure since going ahead, but they get upfield again here and Partey sends a low shot into the keeper’s arms …
After that flurry, a moment of calm – although Bayern are knocking, Sané’s shot saved at the near post by Safonov, starting ahead of Donnarumma tonight. At the Etihad, City keep pouring forward but without much coherence or conviction just yet.
GOALS! Young Boys 1-1 Atalanta
Atalanta hot-shot Mateo Retegui firesthe visitors in front, but before I can type that out, Silvere Ganvoula smashes in a leveller! That’s the first goal Atalanta have conceded in the Champions League this season.
GOAL! Leverkusen 2-0 Salzburg (Grimaldo 11′)
Double trouble for Salzburg, as Alejandro Grimaldo scores a lovely free kick to put Leverkusen in control.
GOAL! Barcelona 1-0 Brest (Lewandowski pen 8′)
Robert Lewandowski gets absolutely clattered by the Brest keeper, earning a penalty, which he converts with consummate ease. With that goal, he joins Ronaldo and Messi in the Champions League’s exclusive 100 club.
GOAL! Leverkusen 1-0 Salzburg (Wirtz pen 9′)
Florian Wirtz buries the spot kick, and there’s another penalty coming up elsewhere …
GOAL! Sporting 0-1 Arsenal (Martinelli 7′)
Now we have a goal – and it’s gone to Arsenal! A neat passing move sees Rice pick out Timber on the right, and his low cross is prodded home by Martinelli at the far post.
Arsenal on the front foot early against a compact-looking Sporting defence. No goals anywhere in Europe, although Leverkusen have a penalty, awarded on VAR review after one of those ricochet handballs …
At the Camp Nou Montjuic, Ajorque puts a half-decent chance for Brest wide early on. At the Etihad, Gundogan sees his mid-range shot deflected behind.
Peep!
We’re under way in Barcelona, Bern, Leverkusen, Lisbon, Milan, Manchester and Munich, where Bayern v PSG kicked off a couple of minutes late.
It’s dangerously close to go time in the seven 8pm Champions League kick-offs. In the Championship, Norwich lead Plymouth and Sheffield United are a goal up at home to Oxford.
“That Arsenal team looking very strong,” writes Bill Hargreaves. “The likes of Nwaneri, Jesus and Sterling on the bench. Could see them doing well this evening and in this competition.”
Charles Antaki says: “That looks a very good Arsenal team. Declan Rice reinstated, and of course the silky schemer Martin Ødegaard back and on top form. Of course that inevitably means, for the ever-anxious Arsenal fan, coming home with their tails between their legs. So, a draw.”
“Is the Ibrahimovic on the bench for Bayern related to Zlatan?” asks Mike Jakeman. Sadly not – but Arijon Ibrahimovic could become a star in his own right. The attacking midfielder is one of Bayern’s brightest youth prospects, and is trying to win a place in Vincent Kompany’s squad after recent injury.
It’s finished Slovan Bratislava 2-3 Milan, the Slovak side staying bottom of the pile with no points from five games. They gave it a good go here, though – unlike Sparta Prague, who have been gubbed 6-0 by Atlético Madrid.
Those results mean Atlético and Milan sit ninth and 10th respectively, breathing down Aston Villa’s necks in the battle for the top eight.
There are also seven Championship games this evening, plus a bumper League One line-up, and Hibs v Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership. I will endeavour to keep you updated, but our live feed is also at your service.
Milan are taking care of business in Bratislava, with Rafael Leão putting them 2-1 up before Tammy Abraham pounced on a woeful backpass to make it three. Up the road in Prague, it’s Sparta 0-4 Atlético, Álvarez (again) and Griezmann adding the second-half goals.

A notable name on the Atlético scoresheet: Júlian Álvarez, who left Manchester City in the summer but has had a slow start to life in Madrid. He’s certainly been missed by Pep Guardiola’s side, who are bidding to end a run of five (!) straight defeats at home to Feyenoord:
It’s half-time in the 5.45pm (GMT) kick-offs, taking place in Czechia and Slovakia. Atlético Madrid lead Sparta Prague 2-0, while Slovan Bratislava are holding Milan to a 1-1 draw.
Preamble
Arsenal’s last eight away games in Europe have produced one win, three draws and four defeats; in their last four trips to the continent, they haven’t scored a single goal. As one of their most celebrated alumni might say: Problem!
Big problem? Not yet. Arsenal have seven points and sit 12th in the giant Champions League table; they will surely advance, but this game will help decide whether they do so via the playoffs, incurring more tricky away trips. As you might have heard, Sporting have lost manager Ruben Amorim, but they are still a free-scoring threat and have previous. The first of those eight Arsenal away games came in Lisbon, a 2-2 Europa League draw which led to defeat on penalties back at the Emirates.
It may be high entertainment and relatively low stakes in Portugal, but Bayern Munich v PSG is a different story. The Parisians have been the weakest of Ligue 1’s quartet so far and sit below the red line in 25th (!) place with tough games still to come. Bayern aren’t faring much better, that opening 9-2 win over Dinamo Zagreb followed by back-to-back defeats, meaning the Croatian side are now above them in mid-table. Oh Vinnie!
But wait, there’s more. Barcelona host Brest in a top-six battle nobody expected, while Leverkusen look to rediscover their fizz against Red Bull Salzburg. Italian outfits Inter and Atalanta – playing to type by not conceding one goal between them so far – look to keep that going against pointless opponents RB Leipzig and Young Boys. Kick-off is 8pm in those games, but two early matches have already started. Eat my goal!
