Porvorim: The allocation for Goa’s information technology sector shot up by 67.63%, standing at Rs 241 crore, which will come in handy as the state looks to transition to paperless functioning and to create beachside coworking spaces branded as Sea Hubs.
The government also proposed to lay a new optical fibre cable network across the state worth Rs 725 crore with the Centre’s assistance.
Chief minister Pramod Sawant said that introducing ‘e-Office’ software will reduce the cost of stationery and save trees. He said that the ‘Har Ghar Fibre’ scheme will provide high-speed internet connectivity to rural households.
The budget proposed to set up Sea Hubs at 12 locations to encourage IT engineers and tech freelancers to work from anywhere.
Collateral-free term loans at nominal interest rates will be offered through EDC to entrepreneurs in villages to set up Common Service Centres.
To provide initial capital to IT startups, loans will be provided under the Chief Minister’s Rozgar Yojana without the need for a government guarantor.
Sawant said that the Electronic Manufacturing Cluster will benefit from the rebate offered by the Centre’s production-linked incentive. This in turn could bring in Rs 1,000 crore investment.
