Strong third quarter spurs Spartans to 36-29 win over Enterprise – Red Bluff Daily News

For the third time this year, the Red Bluff High varsity girls basketball team defeated Enterprise High School, this time on the strength of a solid third-quarter performance and a balanced offensive attack led by two seniors.

Coming out of halftime tied at 19, the Spartans held the Hornets scoreless in the third quarter to take a commanding 28-19 lead entering the fourth quarter.

Seniors Haley Christensen and Havyn Miller led the attack as four different Spartans scored six points on the night.

Christensen scored six points and had a season-high 11 rebounds, while Miller recorded a season-high six points (on two-3 pointers), tied a season-high with a team-high five steals, and led Red Bluff with four assists.

Ava Stroing and Aralynn Winstead-Stroing each chipped in with six points. Cidney Matatule had five points and five rebounds, while senior Elaina Owens added four rebounds.

The Spartans (2-7 in Eastern Athletic League play, 8-15 overall) will close out the regular season tonight in Redding at Foothill, with tip-off at 7:30 p.m.

Red Bluff will learn Saturday morning, where it will be seeded in the Division III Northern Section basketball playoffs. The Spartans are currently fifth according to the North Section points standings, and if they were to be seeded there on Saturday would likely face Shasta in the first round of the playoffs.

Las Plumas 48, Corning 18: On Tuesday night, the Cardinals girls lost to the Thunderbirds 48-18 in Red Bluff. No game stats were provided for this game.

The Cardinals (0-7 in Butte View League, 0-22 overall) will close out the regular season at Orland (7-0 in BVL, 17-9 overall) with tip-off at 7:30 p.m.

LP is now 3-4 in BVL play and 9-14 overall.

Corning is eighth in the North Section points standings and if it were to be seeded there on Saturday, would likely face Pleasant Valley in the first round of the playoffs.

Los Molinos 37, Hamilton 28: The Bulldogs beat the Braves 37-28 on Tuesday night in Hamilton. No game stats were provided for this game.

It was the first win in three tries for the Bulldogs over the Braves this year.

The Bulldogs (6-3 in Mid Valley League, 9-14 overall) will travel to Maxwell (6-3 in MVL and 13-8 overall) on Friday, with tip-off at 6 p.m.

Los Molinos is currently eighth in the North Section point standings.

Boys basketball

Enterprise 67, Red Bluff 34: The Spartans fell to Enterprise 67-34 Tuesday night in Red Bluff. No game stats were provided for this game.

The Spartans (0-9 in Eastern Athletic League play, 8-19 overall) will close out the regular Friday season in Redding at Foothill, with tip-off at 7:30 p.m.

The boys team will also learn where it is seeded for the Division III Northern Section basketball playoffs on Saturday morning.

The Spartans are currently seventh in the North Section points standings and if it were to be seeded there on Saturday, would likely face Chico High in the first round of the playoffs.

Las Plumas 57, Corning 49: The Cardinals lost to the Thunderbirds 57-49 Tuesday night in Red Bluff. No game stats were provided for this game.

The Cardinals (1-6 in BVL, 6-17 overall) will close out the regular season at home against Orland (6-1 in BVL, 18-7 overall), with tip-off at 7:30 p.m.

Los Molinos 46, Biggs 45: The Bulldogs nipped the Wolverines 46-45 Monday night in Biggs just three days after the Wolverines had won at Los Molinos, 39-38.

The Bulldogs (4-4 in MVL, 5-20 overall) played Hamilton Wednesday night (6-1 in BVL, 18-7 overall) and will meet Maxwell (5-3 in MVL and 12-8 overall) on Friday with tip-off being at 7:30 p.m.

Biggs is now 4-4 in MVL play and 9-14 overall.

Los Molinos is currently 10th in the North Section points standings — 12 teams make the Division 5 playoffs, and the Bulldogs will have to wait until Saturday morning to find out if they’ve qualified.
