TAKE to the forest this autumn to make the most of the changing colours from the cosy confines of your own treehouse.

There are wooden wonders across the UK and here Lisa Minot picks four of her favourites.

TREEDWELLERS, COTSWOLDS: Newly opened this month, TreeDwellers is seven uniquely designed luxury escapes set within the 1,700 acres of woodland at Cornbury Park, close to the village of Charlbury in Oxfordshire.

The spectacular one and two-bed self-catering homes feature two huge picture windows at each end of a tubular wooden lodge, elevated three metres above the forest floor.

Inside the retreats are fully-equipped kitchens, cosy living areas with wood-burning stoves and king-size bedrooms.

The bathtubs overlook the surrounding forest and there is a ton of tech, including Sonos sound systems and tablets.

Guests are welcomed on arrival with a hamper of local treats, including cheese, coffee, tea and wine and the on-site shop is stocked with daily essentials.

The homes start from £220 per night for a two-night stay.

See treedwellers.co.uk.

WEE TREE HOWF, PERTHSHIRE: Straight out of a child’s storybook, this higgledy-piggledy treehouse is part of a collection of whimsical holiday homes at Craighead Howf, near Dunblane.

The adult-only retreats include Wee Tree Howf, a Swiss Family Robinson-style wooden folly perched on stilts above a tumbling barn alongside a tiny lochan.

In the barn downstairs there’s a living room and kitchen and up the wooden spiral staircase is a cosy bedroom.

Outside there’s a lakeside veranda as well as a patio area with a barbecue pit as well as a wood-fired hot tub.

The unique lodge is set within stunning scenery boasting lush gardens, woodlands and the lovely lochan.

Prices start from £125 per night, two-night stay minimum.

HIDEOUT AT SLEEPY OWL, DEVON: Indulge in a luxury getaway where you can soak up the views from your very own hot tub or the UK’s first moving, free-standing bath.

There are three treehouses at Sleepy Owl nestled into the woods within 20 acres of the North Devon Biosphere Reserve.

Expect dramatic dark beams towering over the quirky treehouses, as well as an open-plan living area and a stove for cosy nights in for up to four people.

There is also a cute bunk room for the children, and the master has a superking-size four-poster bed.

The highlight is the stunning copper bath that can be manoeuvred via bi-fold doors from the en suite onto a terrace that features an outdoor shower.

Outside, there’s a private terrace with a barbecue and wood-fired pizza oven as well as a hot tub to relax after a day exploring the dramatic north Devon coastline.

Stays are from £360 per night.

DAMSELFLY TREEHOUSE, WILD ESCAPES, HAMPSHIRE: A stay that includes whisky and wine-tasting makes the perfect weekend break.

There are four luxury treehouses at award-winning Hampshire vineyard, Wild Escapes, at Fullerton Farm, near Andover.

Individually designed and built using local materials, we love the modern, minimalist style of the Damselfly Treehouse with its understated elegance.

There’s a king-size bed, sleek living space and fully-equipped kitchen as well as an outdoor shower supported by a towering sycamore tree with a massive copper bath on the deck.

There is a complimentary breakfast hamper complete with a bottle of the vineyard’s sparkling wine, Black Chalk Classic.

Enjoy a private tour through the vineyards, wine tastings and whisky tastings at The Little Whisky Shop.

For the ultimate indulgence, I recommend opting for a Treehouse Tasting.

A two-night stay in November is from £545 in total.
