A 19-year-old has died following a two-vehicle crash north of Cochrane this morning.
RCMP were called to the collision at the intersection of Highway 22 and Township 281 at 1:15 a.m. after a truck hauling a trailer and a small SUV, that were both travelling in the same direction, collided.
“Initial reports indicated that the truck hauling the trailer and SUV were both travelling north on Hwy 22. The collision between the vehicles occurred when the truck over corrected coming back onto the road surface from the shoulder. First travelling into the southbound lane then back to the northbound lane. The SUV collided with the trailer being pulled.” stated police.
Police say the SUV then came to rest in the southbound lane while the truck and trailer struck the guard rail and went into the ditch.
The 19-year-old man driving the truck was pronounced deceased on scene.
The three occupants of the SUV, all 26 years old and from Calgary, two men and a woman, were all treated for non-life-threatening injuries and taken by ground ambulance to hospital.
Police are still on the scene as they continue to investigate the collision along with the support of the Collision Reconstructionist.
Traffic flow in that area is delayed but is set to return to normal by late Sunday morning. Drivers are urged to drive with caution as police continue to investigate.
