Tell us about favourite escapes near European cities – you could win a holiday voucher

Sometimes you just need to head for the hills. Or the river. Or the countryside. Break out of the city, leave all the people and the traffic behind, and find a tranquil spot to recharge the batteries. People from Venice head for the Brenta Riviera on the banks of the Naviglio del Brenta, 20 minutes out of town, for example. In Bordeaux, they make for the beaches of Cap Ferret. And in Granada, there’s refuge in the cool mountain air of the Sierra Nevada. We’d like to hear about your favourite summer city escapes in Europe.

If you have a relevant photo, do send it in – but it’s your words that will be judged for the competition.
