A FANCY cocktail bar in the UK has been ranked the fifth best pub in the world.
The list of the 50 best bars in the world was published earlier this month and one in London scraped into the top five.
While Brits are more commonly known for their boozers, it was the swanky Connaught Hotel bar in Mayfair, London that wowed judges enough for them to include it in the top 10% of their list.
The list is put together by more than 500 industry experts, who celebrate the finest drinking destinations across the planet.
They said that the Connaught Bar was the perfect example of “fine drinking and elegant hospitality”.
And it’s hardly surprising that the bar took such a high spot on the list, given that an extensive list of top celebrities have previously visited the establishment.
The judges admired the bar’s cubist decor and the eight hours of preparation that goes into every service from the three people in charge of the bar, Agostino Perrone, Maura Milia and Giorgio Bargiani.
Of the cocktails on offer, the judges’ favourite was the Dry Martini, which is made using both the bar’s own liquor and a choice of homemade bitters designed by Perrone.
However the bar’s newest cocktail menu ‘Synergia’ was also given rave reviews.
The collection of drinks is “inspired by the dynamics of human encounters”, with Icebreaker (rum, pisco, sherry, peanut butter, fermented banana, verjus and bitters) singled out as a standout.
The judges also urged people to visit the bar’s Masterpieces section, saying: “It lists the most popular cocktails over 15 years of the bar’s lifespan and each and every one is a banger.”
It’s not the first time the bar has appeared on the list either, with an eighth place finish last year.
Visitors can also take drinks away from the bar with them, with Connaught Bar gin available for purchase.
It’s not the only top 50 award the hotel has picked up this year, with the 50 Best Hotels ranking it 22nd, and commenting on the number of A-List guests that have graced its rooms.
They said: “Located in the heart of Mayfair in London is No.22, The Connaught.
“This establishment remains a home away from home for many a Hollywood actor, international musician, or fashion designer.”
Harper’s Bazaar claims that the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow, Cameron Diaz and Taylor Swift have all checked in for a stay.
Kim Kardashian, Kanye West and Jack Nicholson have also visited, according to the Spectator.
Harper’s wrote: “This famous Mayfair hotel enjoys an enviable setting on the edge of Mount Street, offering its even more famous guests one of the capital’s finest shopping quarters on their doorstep.”
Meanwhile, this is one of the best hotels in the UK.
And these are the top 100 hotels in the world.
