Recipients of the one-off £125 payment include families with one or more children of school age, Wales Online reported.

Households with children who are schooled at home as well as families that live in the area but attend school outside will also receive the payout.

A total of 22,000 families are believed to be eligible for the money, according to the council.

RCT Council will also be providing support to lower-paid council employees.

This support will see 6,000 council workers workers in grades one to six receive a supplement payment of £125 which will be added to their salary.

Further supporting payments are expected as the biting winter months approach.

This includes £80,000 to go towards winter welcome centres and hubs providing warm pack items, hot drinks and snacks.

Elsewhere, £30,000 in food support is expected to be handed out to venues serving hot meals.

Councillor Andrew Morgan, leader of the council, said he hopes the Welsh or UK Government will lend a helping hand as the winter is expected to provide “extremely difficult for families, individuals and organisations”.

It comes after the UK government announced it would be giving out its next cost-of-living payment to households on benefits between October 31 and November 19.

Households on tax credits only will receive their payment from HMRC between November 10 and November 19.

The support also includes a further payment of £299 in spring 2024, but the exact date hasn’t yet been confirmed.

The full list of benefits that qualify people for the payments is:

  • Universal Credit
  • Income-based Jobseekers Allowance
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Income Support
  • Working Tax Credit
  • Child Tax Credit
  • Pension credit

If you were receiving any of the above benefits between January 26 and February 25 this year, you received the first £301 payment.

You’ll get the second one too if you were eligible between August 18 and September 17.

If you were later found to be entitled to any of the above benefits between these qualifying dates you are eligible for the payment too.

The payments won’t affect the benefit amount you usually get or contribute to the benefit cap.
