DRIVERS are only just discovering secret features in their cars – including the black dots on the windscreen and the fuel pump hack.
While you might think you know your car like the back of your hand, you could easily be missing out on some key extras.
Here, we break down three key features you might be missing in your motor.
WINDSCREEN DOTS
One user went to Reddit to ask users why the black dots are on the windscreen.
He asked: “What are those little black dots that surround my windshield for?”
They actually have an essential purpose – and without them, driving would be extremely dangerous.

A statement from Autoglass says: “These dots are actually called frits.
“A frit is a painted black enamel that’s baked around the borders of a windscreen during the manufacturing process.
“The black dots or ‘dot matrix’ actually help distribute temperature evenly to lessen optical distortion or ‘lensing’.
“This happens when the frit band (the solid black one) heats up much faster than the windscreen’s glass, creating an optical distortion that makes either straight lines look curved or bowed inwards toward the centre.”
“Those ‘gradually sinking’ black dots help lessen this phenomenon by dissipating the heat and spreading it out evenly.”
But frits are also there for aesthetic purposes.
FUEL HACK
Most drivers don’t know that their car has a hidden feature to make filling up with fuel a lot easier.
When you unscrew your petrol cap, you can place it on a handy slot fitted into the flap.
The nifty trick then keeps the cap out of the way while the driver fills up with petrol.
However, not all cars have this feature.
CUP HOLDER
Sadly, many drivers struggle to fit their water bottles on their car cup holders.
But, a TikTok user @darcyomalley discovered that if you place a taper level invert in the compartment, you can fit most bottles.
And users were blown away by this hack.
One said: “Absolutely stunning. I am now going to Bunnings to do the same thing.”
Another said: “Omg, I literally work at a pipe-making factory that makes these and have never thought of doing this.”
A third pointed out: “Tried and tested, hasn’t fallen out.”
