Former US President Donald Trump’s vice-presidential pick, J D Vance, ignited controversy at the UK Conservatives conference by suggesting that the UK, under Labour, might become the first “truly Islamist” country with nuclear weapons. Vance recounted a discussion with a friend about which nation would be the first “truly Islamist country that will get a nuclear weapon.” He said, “Maybe it’s Iran, maybe Pakistan kind of counts, and then we sort of decided maybe it’s actually the UK since Labour just took over,” during the conference last week.
