The Uptown Kiwanis Club of Riverside recently awarded scholarships to six graduating high school seniors who were Key Club members at their schools.

The recipients excelled in academics and community service and leadership in their schools’ Key Clubs. Key Clubs are high school branches of Kiwanis Club International and are supported by local Kiwanis Clubs, according to a news release from the Uptown Kiwanis Club.

The club presented the $1,000 scholarships May 10.

Winners are Ronald Alonso, Rebecca Ramirez and Sofia Troncoso from Ramona High School, Erikan Ibekwe from John North High School and Emerson Tavares from Woodcrest Christian High School.

The Uptown Kiwanis Club meets at noon the first and third Tuesday of each month at Canyon Crest Country Club in Riverside, according to the club’s website.

The Uptown Kiwanis Club will raise funds for next year’s scholarship awards and other community support activities at its annual fundraiser, Casino Royale, to be held Sept. 7 at the Victoria Club in Riverside. For information about Casino Royale, call 951-682-9590.
