The MoU entails a spend of Rs 5,472 crore out of which Rs 4,282 crore will be invested by the Tata group company and Rs 1,190 crore will be spent by the state government which will include construction of new-age workshops as well as smart classes.
More than 35,000 youth will be trained every year in 11 new age trades and 23 short term courses deemed essential for industry 4.0, with a target of taking the annual training capacity to 60,000 in future. Some new courses that will be introduced include robotics, advanced automobile, 3-D printing, electric vehicles, advanced manufacturing, advanced plumbing as well as other courses related to the designing sector.
“In the rapidly changing world, there have been extensive changes at the technical level, but the ITIs of the state were not upgraded. If we do not keep up with the new technology, we will definitely fall behind. Moving with the times, we also have to join training programs related to new technology, so the state government is signing an MoA amounting to Rs 5472 crore with Tata Technologies today,” CM Yogi Adityanath said, adding that the partnership will also help the trained youth get employment with prestigious companies in India and abroad including in the Tata group itself.
The MoU had also found mention in the state’s annual budget tabled last week.
“I am fortunate that I got the opportunity to come to Uttar Pradesh. Being an engineering and technology company, the focus of our company is to make the youth here better in this field,” Warren Harris, CEO of Tata Technologies said. Describing the nature of courses that will be run by the company, Harris added. “Our aim is to develop the skills of the youth here and connect them with employment.”
A total of 305 government ITIs are operational in the state currently, run by the department of vocational education and skill development, wherein 72 vocational trainings of various types are conducted, the government said in a note.
