Watching action movies

Watching action movies is a thrill, and in the right hands, the film can give you a shot of hyper-living that you’d rather do without in real life. The violence, stunts, chases, explosions, fights and battles being make-believe provide you with far more safety than crossing the street.

So, the escape from reality is extreme. Not to mention the wide-eyed peeks you get into exotic locations, futuristic settings or historical periods, and make them feel like they are part of your adventure. And, yes, they stimulate the senses and emotions far more than any coffee or romcom can.

And don’t forget the aesthetics. With impressive cinematography, special effects, soundtracks and physical acting, fictive violence can, when provided by masters like Sergio Leone, John Woo and Anurag Kashyap, be – yes – beautiful to watch. They can inspire you and challenge your beliefs.
Action movies can showcase courage, skills, intelligence and morality of humans in a exaggerated way and make you admire them. They can also raise deeper questions about the nature of good and evil, justice and injustice, and loyalty and betrayal. What can there be not to love if you know the right way of watching them.
