BROCKTON — Brockton is steeped in Cape Verdean culinary traditions — from cachupa, cuscus and canja to fried pastels and bacalhau. The city is filled with delicious dishes from restaurants all over town, and we want to know which Cape Verdean restaurant you think is the best!

The Enterprise is back with another food poll, and this time, we want you to judge the restaurants based on their overall experience, including the quality and flavor of the food, service and atmosphere.

We hand-picked nine restaurants in Brockton known for their mouthwatering Cape Verdean cuisine. Some restaurants have been in the city for decades, like Luanda, and some just opened recently, like Salo Bar & Grill and Porton Di Nos Ilha. Either way, residents are filling up the dine-in lines and ordering unique Cape Verdean dishes that remind them of home.

There is a type of nostalgia that takes you back to your childhood when you bite into food that reminds you of your mother’s cooking.

Here are the contenders, all of which are located in Brockton: Cardoso Café, 146 Montello St.; Luanda Restaurant, 453 Centre St.; Malu’s Lounge, 23 Montello St.; Panorama Restaurant, 180 N. Main St. A; Porton Di Nos Ilha, 820 Main St.; Preto’s Island Cuisine, 250 Main St.; Salo Bar & Grill, 810 North Montello St.; Sodade, 1145 Main St.; and Sunset Café, 1110 Main St.

The poll runs now through Sunday, Aug. 11 at 11:59 p.m. Let your taste buds guide you.

And if you’re thinking, “Wait a minute, what about all that great Cape Verdean food from local markets?” we’ve got you covered. In an upcoming poll we will ask readers which market has the best Cape Verdean take out menu. Stay tuned.
