BROCKTON — One local business owner watched her dream salon go up in smoke as a three-alarm fire tore through 880 Main St. in Brockton.
Studio Sky Beauty Salon was among the three businesses — along with Khalil’s Kitchen and Garcia Grocery & Tropical — destroyed in the fiery tragedy on Thursday, June 20.
The salon is collecting donations on GoFundMe to help rebuild the salon.
The salon’s owner, Sky Love, received a call at 6:30 a.m. Thursday notifying her of the salon’s demise. She jumped out of bed and ran down the street, hoping it wasn’t true.
But unfortunately, it was the new reality.

Morning of fire
By the time Love arrived, the fire had been put out, and the black burnt bones of the building were all that remained.
“When I got there, I didn’t see my name in lights anymore. Before I locked up on the night of the fire, I left the lights on and never did. When I drove away, I didn’t think that would be the last time I saw Studio Sky in bright lights,” Love said.
The next day the remains of the building were torn down.
The owner is experiencing a sense of profound loss since the salon was destroyed.
“I don’t know. I feel like I lost a child. Studio Sky was my first baby, and I literally feel like a whole chunk of my heart is missing, and all my blood, sweat and tears have gone down the drain, well, not even gone down the drain, but up in flames overnight,” Love said.

More than a business to her
The salon owner planned on keeping the beauty studio until the end. It meant a lot to Love, as one of her friends helped renovate the business, and he later suddenly died in his sleep.
For Love, the salon holds a piece of him in her heart, and watching it disappear overnight has been devastating.
“I feel like I lost someone. I know it’s just material things, but I will never have that exact salon again. I was planning to take care of it until the end. Even if I opened hundreds of salons, I planned to keep the original Studio Sky Salon open. This place was my baby. We did everything from the plumbing to redoing the floors. I even hand-painted the polka dots all over the walls,” Love said.
“Getting that call was one of the worst and most traumatic calls I’ve ever received,” Love said.
