A FREE feature on the iPhone means travellers will never have to check airport departure screens again.
TikTok influencer Aakaanksh Autade, who goes by @kaansanity on the platform, shared the genius hack on Tuesday.
In a new video, Autade revealed how you can keep track of your flight and share details with your friends and family via the Messages app.
He explained: “The next time you are travelling, text yourself your airline and flight number.
“Then tap on it and hit ‘Preview Flight’.”
All users have to do to get flight information is enter their airline and flight number into a text message.
You can also use the airlines’ two-letter abbreviation code in a variety of ways as well (i.e. AA 118, or AA118), and they will work all the same.
As soon as you hit send, the text should be underlined, indicating that the feature worked.
Once underlined, you can tap on the text message, which will reveal two options: (1) Preview Flight, (2) Copy Flight Code.
If you or the person on the receiving end of the message click on ‘Preview Flight,’ you can view all the information regarding the flight such as departure time, arrival time, and time left on the flight.
The handy feature also displays the gate, terminal, and baggage claim numbers, as well as a map that tracks the trip in real-time.
“All of your flight details will show up right here, so don’t have to check the airport screens,” Autade added.
Here’s how to track flights
TO track flights on Messages you’ll need an iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
- Open the Messages app. Find the conversation where a user has sent you flight information (you can send it to someone else if you haven’t been sent it here). They’ll need to type the Airline Name and Flight Number in succession. In most cases, this also works with the airline abbreviation and number
- Tap the Airline Name/Abbreviation and Flight Number in Messages
- Choose Preview Flight
“If your flight gets delayed, it will let you know right here.”
But fans debated over where the trick is actually available.
TikTok user Diana Monté said: “Doesn’t work outside USA as far as I’m aware.”
Multiple other users claimed they had successfully used the hack in Canada, Ireland and Sweden.
Meanwhile DefoNotAvgeek declared they would “rather use FlightRadar24”.
